Geotechnical Assessment HKZWFS I and II

Martijn Klein (Fugro) will guide you through the soil conditions and the geological context at HKZWFS I and II based on bathymetric, seismic and geological data. The aim of the geotechnical assessment is the same as it was for the Borssele Wind Farm Zone to improve and validate the geological model resulted from the geophysical investigation and to confirm the soil engineering properties at HKZWFS I and II required by developers to progress with their geotechnical foundation designs and other general design and installation requirements for the wind farm, as well as those relating to cable installation. An second aim was to prevent the need for sampling with bore holes at a later stage of development.

As with the Borssele wind farm, the geotechnical survey for HKZWFS I and II uses intrusive techniques to gain an insight into the characteristics of the subsoil. Two general types of measurements are being performed: cone penetration tests (CPT) and boreholes.

A panel of the following experts: Sven Plasman, Erik Schoute (Fugro), Bogusia Klosowska (Fugro), John Carey (Wind Support Ltd.), Ben de Sonneville (BLIX) and Ruud de Bruijne (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) will be present to answer any questions on the geotechnical assessment.

Results of this assessment:

This assessment partly superseeds the findings of the geophysical survey. In brief from a geological perspective, the soil conditions of the area are suitable for offshore wind development using all common installation techniques and foundation types. Published deliverables:

• Geotechnical Groundmodel reports for WFS I and II
