A panel of experts from live production, retail and research, reflecting a multi-stakeholder perspective, will explore and discuss how consumer sentiment, science and economics will influence the way poultry and swine will be raised in the future.
Concerns that will be discussed:
• Which consumer concerns will factor most in how pigs and poultry will be raised in the future?
• Can the consumer have it all?
• What are some of the trade offs between bird health and food safety or free-range rearing and bio security?
• What technologies will emerge to keep poultry and swine production sustainable?
PROF. PAUL WIGLEY
UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL
Paul Wigley is Professor of Avian Infection and Immunity at the University of Liverpool.
He has a BSc in Immunology and PhD in Molecular Microbiology.He began research in poultry in 1998 at the Institute for Animal Health,joining Liverpool Vet School in 2004. He has published over 70 peerre viewed articles on the immunology and microbiology of poultry and his work has included understanding the impact of infection on village poultry systems in Africa, as well as commercial egg and meat production in developed industries.
His current research focuses on the immunobiology of avian enteric infections, the micro biome of monogastric livestock and evolution of new epidemic antimicrobial resistant variants of Salmonella in pigs,poultry and humans.

Nan-Dirk Mulder joined Rabobank International's Food & Agribusiness Advisory and Research department (FAR) in 2001. Based in Rabobank's headquarter in Utrecht, the Netherlands, he is senior global animal protein analyst and covers this industry from an international perspective.
Nan-Dirk graduated in agricultural economics, marketing and market research from the Netherlands' Wageningen Agricultural University in1996. Before his appointment at Rabobank International, he worked for the Product Boards for Livestock, Meat and Eggs (PVE) and the Agricultural Economic Research Institute (LEI) in the Netherlands.
STRATEGY DIRECTOR AHDB PORK
Mick Sloyan is Strategy Director at AHDB Pork (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board), the statutory organization for the English pig production and processing industry.
Mick started his career in 1977 when he joined the Meat and Livestock Commission as an Economist after obtaining a BSc in Agricultural Economics and an MSc in Agricultural Policy. He worked in a range of areas including market analysis and long term forecasting for the British meat industry before specialising in the pig industry in 1999. During his career at MLC Mick also worked on the links between meat and human health and has worked on secondment for the British Government in Sudan.
Mick is the Chairman of the International Meat Secretariat (IMS) Pork Committee and the Animal Care Committee. He is also a member of the IMS Executive Committee.

A.V.E.C. Association of Poultry Processors and Poultry Trade in the EUAVEC is a voluntary, non-profit association created in 1966. AVEC represents and promotes the interests of the European poultry sector.

In 2016, Peter Best celebrates 50 years as an agricultural journalist. He has worked on international, regional and national publications for all parts of the world on the businesses of pig, poultry and animal feed production. Between 1973 and 2008 he was an international editor at WATT Global Media. Today he is the principal of the Animal Information Network and a contributor to farm-to-food business services internationally.He lives in southern England.
